The 2017 Mazda CX-5 made its debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is a compact crossover available in front wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The new Mazda CX-5 includes active safety features, leather upholstery, and an active driving display.

In 2012, Mazda CX-5 was the first model to combine company's Kodo Design Language and Skyactiv Technology. The crossover soon became one of the best-selling models from Mazda with global sales of over 1.4 million units. The second generation 2017 Mazda CX-5 has its design based on the Mazda CX-9 and Mazda3, reported Motor Trend.

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 has sleeker headlights, a large grill on the front and slimmer taillights which add a vivid look to the vehicle. The car comes with improved noise levels, improved steering turn-in and carries the company's signature "Soul Red" paint.

The engine of 2017 Mazda CX-5 has been revised and the car provides a snappier throttle response. The two engine configurations are a 2.0-liter and a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline engine and a revised 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D diesel turbo engine. The diesel engine pumps 173 horsepower at 4500 rpm and it is mated to a 6-speed auto gearbox.

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 has one of the best performing chassis in its class thanks to Mazda's G-Vectoring Control, reported Forbes. This GVC monitors vehicle's speed, the position of throttle and rate of steering wheel rotation.

Talking about the safety, the new 2017 Mazda CX-5 has an updated Mazda i-Antisense package that includes automatic braking, lane departure warning, radar-based adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and lane-keep assist. In addition, Mazda has also included Driver Attention Alert and active LED headlights for the driver's safety.

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is stylish both indoors and outdoors and the cabin is spacious and elegant looking. The pricing for the 2017 Mazda CX-5 starts at $30900 which is same as that of the outgoing model. The crossover is a complete package with great handling, comfort and refinement and good interior quality.

Styling Walk-around: 2017 Mazda CX-5 Versus 2016 Mazda CX-5

The official launch of the redesigned-for-2017 Mazda CX-5 is just around the corner; it’s slated to begin arriving in dealerships later this spring. The new CX-5 represents an evolution of Mazda’s KODO—Soul of Motion design theme, a motif that debuted on the Mazda Shinari concept car of 2010. The new bodywork also bears an obvious family resemblance to the CX-5’s larger sibling—the redesigned-for-2016 Mazda CX-9 midsize SUV.

At the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, Mazda had both the new 2017 CX-5 and the 2016 model on display in their booth, so we took the opportunity to grab some quick walk-around shots comparing the two. Check it out (the 2017 pics are on the left, 2016 on the right), and stay tuned—we should be getting our first test-drive taste of the new Mazda CX-5 in the coming weeks.

Mazda CX-5 front view
The new nose is significantly more dramatic without being overdone. We’re especially fond of the inset grille texture and the chrome trim piece that defines the lower edge of the grille.
Mazda CX-5 side view
There’s a clear family resemblance between the 2017’s wheels and the 2016’s. Both have the same “double five-spoke” design with a graphite gray finish and machined-aluminum “edging.”
Mazda CX-5 head lights
The 2017’s sleeker, thinner headlights are nicely integrated into the grille. Lots of eye-catching details on the new CX-5, including the intentional gap between the top of the chrome grille bar and the leading edge of the nose.
Mazda CX-5 side view
The CX-5’s basic profile doesn’t change much from the first generation to the second generation, but the new model has a slightly more formal, more upscale feel. The bright trim around the side windows is a classy detail.
Mazda CX-5 back view
The new CX-5 keeps its predecessor’s distinctive “semi-bobtail” proportions but adds crisper surface details.
Mazda CX-5 from inside its look
The 2017 CX-5’s interior is a bit more dynamic than the outgoing model. It makes effective use of satin-chrome trim (especially around the HVAC vents) and color-matched upholstery accents on the console and doors. The slightly higher center console gives the interior a sporty feel.

2017 Mazda CX-5: More Reasons For You To Get One

Tech

It's not just about the looks, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 has a lot more to offer that simply gives you more reason to buy one. (Photo: into paying/YouTube)

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 has been one of the most talked about crossover SUVs since late 2016 and this does not come much of a surprise given all the promises it is set to deliver. Perhaps you have already made up your mind about getting a 2017 Mazda CX-5 once it hits the North American market by the end of March this year or you may have decided to wait for its diesel engine next fall. Regardless of what decision you have made, here are a few more reasons why you should get yourself a 2017 Mazda CX-5.

2017 Mazda CX-5: The Diesel Engine

Here's the deal, most of the details of the diesel engine for the 2017 Mazda CX-5, which is scheduled to be delivered later this year, have already been revealed. Mazda has also given us a preview of it with the Japanese-spec 2017 Mazda CX-5 diesel that will apparently be very close to one that will be delivered in the U.S. market.

According to Forbes, which had been lucky enough to put the 2017 Mazda CX-5 to the test, the 2.2-liter turbodiesel has an output of 173 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque that can be squeezed out at 4,500rpm and 2,000rpm respectively. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission that simply offers a more engaging driving experience.

If you were worried that the diesel engine for the 2017 Mazda CX-5 will be a noisy one, you would be happy to know that it will not. Apparently, Mazda has added natural sounds smoothers in the piston pins of the diesel engine in order to address the sound problems for the diesel.

2017 Mazda CX-5: Parking Features

One of the best things about the 2017 Mazda CX-5 is the fact that there are more features that would simply be helpful for drivers. According to the report, the usual handbrake has been replaced with a new electronic parking brake that you can simply engage by pressing a button instead of pulling the handbrake up. In addition, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 benefits from a reverse camera and parking distance control. It is no secret that parking and driving in reverse are the trickiest part of driving and these features will be able to make things easier for you.

2017 Mazda CX-5: Safety Features

Needless to say, the most important aspect of any vehicle are the safety features and this is something where the 2017 Mazda CX-5 certainly does not fall short on. The 2017 Mazda CX-5 has updated its i-Active sense safety package that features a radar-based adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist- lane departure warning and driver attention alert. The package also includes automatic braking system along with blind spot monitoring and active LED headlights. The 2017 Mazda CX-5 has a lot more to make sure that you are safe at all times when you are on the road.

2017 Mazda CX-5: A Spacious Interior

One of the biggest reason why most people are going for SUVs these days is because of the fact that these vehicles offer more room not just for the passengers but also for their cargo. That being said, a big smile will most likely be painted on your face with the 2017 Mazda CX-5's interior space. In terms of number, some people would not be impressed but when you get to see for yourself just how much stuff you can pack in the 2017 Mazda CX-5, you will probably be thanking yourself for buying a 2017 Mazda CX-5 instead of a different SUV.
